A weighted cuddly toy. One that grows with them.
Children take in more stimuli during the day than they can process. School, busyness, impressions that only surface in the evening. A weighted cuddly toy gives them something tangible to hold onto when it all becomes too much.
Why adjustable weight matters specifically for children
This is where most weighted cuddly toys go wrong. You buy 2 kg, your child finds it too heavy, and the cuddly toy disappears under the bed. You guessed the weight once — and guessed wrong.
With an Ella Sleeps, you start lighter. Remove two pouches from the tummy and the cuddly toy weighs 1.5 kg. Once your child gets used to it, put one back. This way, the cuddly toy grows with them instead of having to be just right all at once. Read how to choose the right weight.
From what age?
We recommend use from age 3.
Two things are important to know. The cuddly toy contains three removable pouches with loose beads. They should remain inside the tummy and must not end up in children's hands — regularly check that the compartment is properly closed. Also: let young children use the cuddly toy when you are nearby, especially at first.
A child must be able to move the weighted cuddly toy and put it away themselves. If they cannot, the cuddly toy is too heavy — remove some pouches.
When parents use it
- At bedtime, as a regular part of the evening routine
- After school, on the sofa, while settling down after a busy day
- During transitions — from playing to eating, from home to going out
- In times of sadness or tension, as something to hold onto
Many parents of children with autism, ADHD, or high sensitivity use the stuffed animal this way. It remains a tool, not a treatment — if you have concerns about your child's development, a GP, child health clinic, or healthcare provider is the right place to turn.
Let your child choose
This may sound like a detail, but it is not. A weighted stuffed animal only works if it is actually picked up, and a child who chose the animal themselves is more likely to pick it up. The unicorn and the dinosaur are the two children most often point to themselves — for completely different reasons.

Frequently asked questions
From what age is a weighted stuffed animal suitable?
We recommend it from the age of 3, with supervision for young children.
How heavy may a weighted stuffed animal be for a child?
Light enough for your child to lift and put away independently. Start at 1.5 kg and increase the weight as they get used to it.
My child thinks it is too heavy. What now?
Remove one or two bags from the belly. The stuffed animal will then weigh 1.75 or 1.5 kg, and with all three removed, 1.25 kg.
Can the stuffed animal go to school or stay overnight?
Yes. Do make sure that the compartment containing the bags is securely closed.
Is this suitable for a child with autism or ADHD?
Many parents use the stuffed animal that way. It is a tool that can provide calm, not a treatment — if in doubt, consult your healthcare provider.
A weighted stuffed animal is a tool, not medical treatment. If symptoms persist or worsen, discuss this with your GP, child health clinic, or healthcare provider.
